The job of the pediatric occupational therapist (OT) is to help children do the work of childhood better. That means helping children play, take care of themselves, and participate in their schoolās program as fully as possible. The occupations or ājobsā of children can be broken down into three areas: play, self-care, and learning/school.
Occupational Therapy Areas of Intervention:
Our Mental Health Providers (LCSW, LMC) provide assessment and treatment of emotional and behavior problems.
Holistic Mental Health Areas of Intervention:
ABA therapists utilize a behavior analysis method to provide behavioral improvement for Autism sufferers and others with developmental, and behavioral challenges. By observing and responding to different behaviors, ABA therapists provide guidance to patients with the intention of helping to alter those behaviors in an observable way.
ABA Therapy Areas of Intervention:
SPOT is an interdisciplinary therapy team that focuses on meeting clientsā speech-language, behavioral, and independent functioning needs by following interactive and multi-sensory approaches in small group settings. SPOT addresses clientsā goals/objectives using a collaborative/co-treatment model. Therapists collaborate with parents to promote carryover to home, school, and community settings.
What are some of the benefits of SPOT?
Learning to READ and WRITE are two of the most important skills children can learn. Our RWE program makes the learning to read and write journey fun, interactive, and highly rewarding.
What is involved in Reading/Reading Comprehension?
Reading difficulties usually begin as early as kindergarten. Children who have not mastered reading skills by third grade will continue to fall behind their peers and probably never catch up without the right interventions. Reading interventions are activities and strategies that help struggling readers develop their ability to read.
Struggling readers can be students who are not able to decode, or break up, words into syllables. Through decoding, students sound out unfamiliar words they encounter while reading. On the other hand, you may have a reader who can decode but cannot comprehend what they're reading. It's also possible to have a reader who can comprehend and decode, but whose oral reading is poor. The reader may orally read very slowly, mispronounce many of the words, or read in monotone without expression. This type of reader has problems with fluency.
Reading Areas of Intervention:
What is involved in Written Expression?
The act of writing involves language, visual skills, and the motor skills needed to form letters. Because of this, a disorder of written expression can include some combination of fine motor problems, language problems, visual-spatial problems, and attention and memory problems. Some children may have difficulty tracing shapes or writing letters; others may be able to form letters well, but they may be very slow; still other children have good penmanship but cannot organize their thoughts well enough to write a well-formed paragraph or story.
